Join us for Around (2019) documentary screening on October 17 at 7.30pm. This film inspired our mindful challah bread bake routine. The screening and the popcorn are free.
Around (2019) documentary is an intimate view into the Jewish tradition of Challah bread baking that continues to connect people around the table today. It captures fifteen bakers from the San Francisco Bay Area in their homes. They are individuals of different cultures, self-identities and stages of life. Their inspiring stories are interwoven with reflections on today’s meaning of Shabbat by Rabbi Yeshaia Charles Familant, former director of Stanford Hillel.
Jews share Challah bread during Friday night dinner. It is one of the weekly rituals that welcomes Shabbat, the Jewish day-of-rest. There is no one recipe for the Challah bread as there are countless desires that have been kneaded into the Challah for thousands of years.
